I guess I'll follow suit, as directed. These are not in any particular order, since having to rank these would be difficult.
- Zip-lining through the Costa Rican rain forest. I didn't think this was going to necessarily be a highlight for me, since I'm deathly afraid of heights, but once I got over it on the first few lines, the rest was pretty amazing stuff.
- Staying in what was effectively a mansion. The place was huge - around 6000 square feet with an amazing pool and beach access. Previous to us, apparently a group of 30 college kids rented it, so it held the 12 of us quite comfortably.
- Amazing cooking from the housekeeper. Apparently when the owners come to visit, they have her do more cooking than housekeeping because her food is so amazing, and the best food we had in the country was probably her cooking. I've got her recipes, but I'm a little afraid to try them for fear of ruining them and sullying them.
- $12 for a giant steak in mushroom pepper sauce. Our final night in Costa Rica, we checked into our hotel near the airport and then asked the person who checked us in for any ideas of where to eat. He arranged a reservation for us at a place that was a ways away, but apparently had an amazing view, and a free shuttle picked us up. While we were driving, after a while, we realized that we were locked into what very well might be a scam and we might be on a ride to a terrible restaurant at exorbitant prices. Quite the opposite, we had a cheap, amazing meal with an incredible view of the city.
- "Nachos as big as your ass." That was the actual marketing slogan ... I'm not making that up. And they were, quite large. And very, very tasty.
- Taco Stop (actually Barking Dog Taco Stand), for the most amazing Burritos I've ever had.
- Tabacon Hot Springs - Amazing, amazing, amazing! The resort was basically a series of connected rivers and pools, all fueled by the hot springs, ranging in temperature between comfortably lukewarm to as hot as you can stand, with a cold pool for variety. Amazing scenery, amazing water, amazing everything. I could go back and spend an entire vacation basking in these pools.
Lots of other great stuff, but that's what pops to mind. Highly recommended.
